Okay okay, just one more Australian chapter book series this year, I promise. No, not Billie’s main series. Or her best friend’s series. That’s like, over fifty books I still have to import. The other other one. The mystery one. Billie B Mysteries is a six-book sequel series to the popular (in Australia) early chapter […]
I’m back with another really cool, really short series. This time from HarperCollins! Their Harper Chapters imprint has been around since 2020, so not really long enough to have any standout series yet. They focus on early chapter books (ages 5-8). Trouble At Table 5 is one of their longer running series, but hasn’t seen […]
Okay, now let’s talk about Australian chapter books. The earliest of chapter books. Age 4-7 early. Not an early reader, I can assure you. We don’t talk about those here. Just to give you an idea of how good I think Lily the Elf is, I rated two of these books 5-stars on Goodreads. Out […]
So Ivy+Bean is officially over. Twelve books, fifteen years, and a lifetime to reprints to come. Don’t believe that last part? Go read it. Like, right now. This is one of those “forever” series like Junie or Captain Underpants. And it only has twelve books! Premise Meet Ivy and Bean, two friends who never meant […]
Yep, I finally got there. It’s Rainbow Magic time. So Rainbow Magic is a Heckelbeck-level lengthy chapter book series that I’ve been avoiding for a while. But sometimes you find a near-mint collection at Goodwill last week and fate has other plans. You’ve probably heard of Rainbow Magic. There’s over 300 books at this point, […]
I couldn’t stay away from another series review for long, because Desmond Cole Ghost Patrol is that good. Every monster trope in the world? Flashbacks every book? How is this ages 5-8? Rare male main characters, too! Premise Eight-year-old Andres Miedoso is new to Kersville, and gets swept up in the action-packed excitement of being […]
It’s finally time! I’ve talked a bit about everyone’s favorite vampire-fairy in a lot of my past articles. She just hit twenty books (and a TV show) which is my baseline for Series Spotlights (the books not the TV show). Get ready for one of the coolest modern chapter book series. Premise Isadora Moon is […]
Yeah yeah, I’m talking about Dragon Masters again. That series I previously mentioned I had no idea why I liked it. Well I’ve read over twenty-five books now, so I’d better figure out why. It’s basically the Magic Tree House of this generation. A literary powerhouse that shows no signs of slowing down. As a […]
This month was a toss up between Mean Girls in Chapter Books or reviewing Owl Diaries. As much as I want to gush about the new mean girl characters on the chapter book block, people need to hear about Owl Diaries. There’s twenty books and a TV show now, so get out from under that […]
Yeah yeah, it’s not chapter books. My blog has “mouse” in the name, so this counts. Kevin Henkes is my favorite kidlit author, bar none. He writes mice characters and doesn’t shy away from subjects. Premise(s) Each book deals with a very common subject. Not like mermaids or unicorns or teeth falling out. Really deep […]
